Darren here, talking to your adult kids about money can feel… awkward.
But avoiding the conversation can lead to bigger issues later—especially when it comes to your legacy, your wishes, and their expectations.

Here’s how to approach it without pressure or tension:

  • Start with your own plans.
You don’t have to share every dollar—but talking about your retirement goals, estate plan, or Power of Attorney choices opens the door gently.
  • Ask questions like:
“What would you want to know if something happened to me?” or
“What kind of support might you need in the future?”
Framing it as a two-way conversation helps build trust.
  • Be clear on values.
Let them know what’s important to you—whether it’s fairness, financial independence, or charitable giving.

And remember:
You don’t need to solve everything in one talk.
Start small, stay open, and revisit it as life changes.
